Sugar Plum by Heather Jansch
Sugar Plum was the first of Heather’s life-sized foals to be cast in bronze. An edition of five was planned, but, we believe that only three were cast before the moulds were lost. Until recent contact from the owner of the second cast, we had believed that the edition ended at number two. In the above photograph the bronze is in the foreground, with the driftwood original from which it was cast in the background. You can see the clear divergence in colour: the driftwood bleaches over time, but the bronze darkens.
Jansch’s foals have long been among the most popular of her work, and as a result the original edition of Sugar Plum is quickly sold out. There will be no further casts.
There are several more of Heather’s life-size foals still available, in both the driftwood original and bronze, including Cherry Pie, Dylan, Sugar Babe and Clover.

Other sculpture by Heather Jansch
This piece forms part of Heather Jansch’s series of life-size foals, but other examples of her work include her life-size driftwood and bronze horses such as The Young Arabian. Heather also made smaller work for interiors, an example being Jeunesse from her Tang series, and the magnificent Etalon, regarded by many as her very finest work. In a departure from her usual practice, Heather also produced a series of dancers and warrior women.
We are following an active programme of casting from Heather’s moulds to finish the editions she began. As a result, many of her sculptures remain available for purchase. Because of this Heather’s work continues to be exhibited on a regular basis, and can currently be seen at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY, and Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, UK.
