The Young Arabian by Heather Jansch

This was the first of Jansch’s lifesize horses to be moulded for bronze.

Heather frequently took her inspiration from her own Arabian horse RaRa, who lived at her Olchard studio for many years. In this sculpture Jansch’s mastery of the equine form can be seen in the way she captures the spritely nature and finely drawn form of the Arabian breed. There is something so appealingly animal about The Young Arabian; one might almost expect to smell the horse standing next to you.

The original is available for interior exhibition, but a bronze edition of five is also available.

This sculpture forms part of a series of lifesize bronzes by Jansch and clearly demonstrates her love of the Arabian horse. Other examples include Apollo, Forget Me Not, and Jansch’s most famous sculpture The Eden Horse; which for many years stood guard over the entrance to The Eden Project.

This piece forms part of Heather Jansch’s series of life-size horses, but other examples of her work include her enduringly popular life-size foals, such as Dylan. Heather also made smaller work for interiors, an example being Jeunesse from her Tang series, and the magnificent Etalon, regarded by many as her very finest work. In a departure from her usual practice, Heather also produced a series of dancers and warrior women.

We are following an active programme of casting from Heather’s moulds to finish the editions she began and so Heather’s work continues to be exhibited on a regular basis, and can be seen at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY, and Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, UK. As a result, many of her sculptures remain available for purchase.

Our exhibitions page has details of upcoming shows, but if you are considering a purchase and would like to arrange a viewing or additional photographs you are welcome to get in touch.
