Jeunesse by Heather Jansch
In a complete departure from her usual vernacular, and concurrently with Jansch’s exploration of casting the driftwood sculptures in bronze, she also produced a series of horses inspired by Tang Dynasty imagery.
Visually, Jeunesse and the other pieces in the series share little with Jansch’s other work, except for an acuteness of eye that can be said to form the backbone of her entire output. The Tang sculptures don’t look like Jansch’s work but they are magnificent none-the-less. Because of their spritely stance, and their exacting form, they occupy space in exactly the way you would expect of Jansch’s very best sculptures, albeit on a much smaller scale.
Other examples in the Tang series include The Calling, Chinoise, Zingaro, and The Magic Horse. In addition there are two sculptures with similar although less obvious Tang inspiration in their genes, namely Cicero and Sampson Two (we don’t know if there was a “Sampson”).
The next available cast of Jeunesse is number six.
You can view Jansch’s Tang horses at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY.

Other sculpture by Heather Jansch
This piece forms part of Heather Jansch’s series of sculptures inspired by Tang Dynasty imagery, but other examples of her work include her enduringly popular life-size foals, such as Dylan and most famously, her life-size horses, best illustrated by The Eden Horse. Her smaller work for interiors included sculptures like the magnificent Etalon, regarded by many as her very finest work. In a departure from her usual practice, Heather also produced a series of dancers and warrior women.
We are following an active programme of casting from Heather’s moulds to finish the editions she began and so Heather’s work continues to be exhibited on a regular basis, and can be seen at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY, and Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, UK. As a result, many of her sculptures remain available for purchase.
Our exhibitions page has details of upcoming shows, but if you are considering a purchase and would like to arrange a viewing or additional photographs you are welcome to get in touch.
