Dylan

Pictured here in the bronze (with the last cast of Sugar Plum in the background) Dylan forms part of Jansch’s magnificent series of life-size foals. He has a distinctly masculine presence, and what looks like a boisterous edge to him; you can imagine that standing in front of him might not be a good idea.

Jansch’s foals have found an enduring place in many hearts, and they remain among Heather’s most popular sculptures: children in particular cannot resist the temptation to go for a ride.

Dylan was one of the first in the series, but there are several other examples of Heather’s foals, including Cherry Pie, Sugar Babe, Clover, and Sugar Plum.

Dylan is available in an edition of five bronzes, but the original did not form part of the artist’s estate: if you know of the location of the driftwood original, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Examples of Jansch’s foals can be seen at The Diehl Gallery, and The Eden Project, or by appointment at our archive.

This piece forms part of Heather Jansch’s series of life-size foals. Other examples of her work include, most famously, her life-size driftwood and bronze horses, such as Apollo. Her smaller work for interiors included sculptures like Jeunesse from her Tang series, and the magnificent Etalon, regarded by many as her very finest work. In a departure from her usual practice, Heather also produced a series of dancers and warrior women.

We are following an active programme of casting from Heather’s moulds to finish the editions she began and so Heather’s work continues to be exhibited on a regular basis, and can be seen at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY, and Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, UK. As a result, many of her sculptures remain available for purchase.
