Sugar Babe by Heather Jansch
Sugar Babe was one of the first in Jansch’s series of life-size foals and is pictured here in the bronze, standing nose-to-nose with the original; can you tell which is which? Much like her sibling Sugar Plum she clearly demonstrates Jansch’s fascination with the Arabian bred, and bears all the signs of having been inspired by Heather’s own Arabian horse RaRa for instance.
Other examples in the series of foals include Cherry Pie, Dylan, Clover, and Sugar Plum. Jansch’s foals have found an enduring place in many hearts, and so they remain among her most popular sculptures; children cannot resist the temptation to climb them and go for a ride.
Sugar Babe is available in an edition of five bronzes. Number two is on exhibition at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY, but number four is the next available to commission from the edition. The original still exists and is currently on exhibition at The Eden Project, (standing alongside a bronze of Cherry Pie).

Other sculpture by Heather Jansch
This piece forms part of Heather Jansch’s series of life-size foals, but other examples of her work include her life-size driftwood and bronze horses such as Apollo. Her smaller work for interiors includes sculptures like Jeunesse from her Tang series for instance, and the magnificent Etalon, regarded by many as her very finest work. In a departure from her usual practice, Heather also produced a series of dancers and warrior women.
We are following an active programme of casting from Heather’s moulds to finish the editions she began. As a result, many of her sculptures remain available for purchase. Because of this Heather’s work continues to be exhibited on a regular basis, and can currently be seen at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY, and Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, UK.
