Neptune by Heather Jansch
To satisfy increasing demand for smaller work late in her career, Jansch decided upon a change of scale, and as a result moved briefly away from the life-size work that had pre-occupied her for the previous decade.
The result was a collection of tabletop pieces that included Neptune. He is the largest in the series, and is arguably the best of them (obviously, this is an entirely subjective statement)!
The series is available in an edition of 25 and in addition to Neptune includes, Beethoven, RaRa, and Sofia. Here again Heather’s love of the Arabian horse is clearly on show (in particular in RaRa and Sofia).
Examples from this bronze series, including Neptune number 8 of 25, can currently be seen on exhibition at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY, but none of the originals still exist.
If you have one of the original driftwood examples in your collection we would be delighted to hear from you.
There is another, larger, series of sculptures made in a similar vein, but earlier in Jansch’s career: Sharza, Jupiter and Sentinel.
