Jack’s Darling by Heather Jansch
Throughout her career there was always a strong desire to rebel against the constraints imposed upon her by her mastery of the equine form. Because of this Heather expressed herself in a series of dancers and warriors, the genesis of which can clearly be seen in her painting.
Jack’s Darling is the smallest of the dancers, but is also the most perfectly formed, and one of only two that were ever cast in bronze (the other, titled Charlotte, is not yet on the website).
Unlike the Tang series, which shared little with Jansch’s other work (Jeunesse for example), the dancers have a clear link all the way back to the 1990s and Jansch’s studio in Ashburton, the venue for the life-drawing class Heather hosted for a number of years.
The next available bronze cast of Jack’s Darling is number two of twelve, but the original is no-longer available.

Other sculpture by Heather Jansch
This piece forms part of Heather Jansch’s series of dancers and warrior women. Other examples of her work include, most famously, her life-size driftwood and bronze horses, such as Apollo, and her enduringly popular foals, such as Sugar Babe. Her smaller work for interiors included sculptures like Jeunesse from her Tang series, and the magnificent Etalon, regarded by many as her very finest work.
We are following an active programme of casting from Heather’s moulds to finish the editions she began and so Heather’s work continues to be exhibited on a regular basis, and can be seen at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY, and Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, UK. As a result, many of her sculptures remain available for purchase.
