Dancer No. 1 by Heather Jansch
Heather had a strong desire to rebel against the constraints imposed upon her by her mastery of the equine form. As a result she often focused on other subjects. Because of this Heather expressed herself in a series of dancers and warriors, the genesis of which can clearly be seen in her painting.
Dancer No. 1 is one of the smallest of the dancers, but much like it’s sister Terpsichore is also beautifully formed. As an untitled peice it has not yet been moulded for bronze, however, should there be suffient demand in future, a set of moulds can be created at Heather’s foundry.
Unlike the Tang series, which shared little with Jansch’s other work (Jeunesse for example), the dancers have a clear link all the way back to the 1990s and Jansch’s studio in Ashburton, the venue for the life-drawing class Heather hosted for a number of years.
If a bronze edition is created, it would probably be an edition of twelve, but in the meantime the original is available.

Other sculpture by Heather Jansch
This piece forms part of Heather Jansch’s series of dancers and warrior women. Other examples of her work include, most famously, her life-size driftwood and bronze horses, such as Apollo. Her smaller work for interiors included sculptures like Jeunesse from her Tang series, and the magnificent Etalon, regarded by many as her very finest work.
We are following an active programme of casting from Heather’s moulds to finish the editions she began. Thus Heather’s work continues to be exhibited on a regular basis, and can be seen at The Diehl Gallery in Jackson, WY, and Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, UK. As a result, many of her sculptures remain available for purchase.
Our exhibitions page has details of upcoming shows, but if you would are considering a purchase and would like to arrange a viewing or additional photographs you are welcome to get in touch.
