Madrugada
Madrugada carries a truly formidable presence. He is Jansch’s only larger than life-size bronze sculpture, and undoubtedly, were he a complete horse, would stand far higher than any Shire.
Jansch’s artistry is at the zenith of her practice in this piece, so the life within him is as palpable as it is with the very best of her work. To create such a visually virile representation of the equine form with just a few scraps of driftwood is the perfect demonstration of why Jansch is considered one of the UK’s finest artists. Place Madrugada at your gates and passing miscreants are sure to steer clear.
The driftwood original is in a private collection, however, Heather also created moulds for bronze. The first cast in the edition of five is in a US collection, however, number two was completed in late 2024.
The bronze has been exhibited at Moorwood Art and Pangolin London, and can currently be seen by arrangement with Stoneman Collins Advisory.
